I am filled with so much joy that my mother "Nigeria" is alive. She isn't dead. She has gone through wars, conflicts, sorrow, happiness, joy, laughter and Woos. She is black and still beautiful. She is proud but not healthy. She is sick. The giant of Africa is sick!
Looking at my 54 year old mother, who has gone through a lot. Lost lots of children. Filled with memories, good and bad. She smiles sometimes and frown other times. It is incredible how times, good, bad and ugly hasn't broken her down. What surprises me most is how strong she is. She isn't helpless. She only needs support.
She needs support from the vast vital population of the economy. She needs support from the energetic and passionate people in the country. The youths.
The youths are neglected in Nigeria of today. They aren't considered citizens yet neither are they considered in plans to make the country better. Instead, they are used as weapons of negativity. The youths aren't encouraged, inspired, empowered positively enough. The negligence makes you wonder if our leaders passed the youthful stage or escaped it.
The core foundation of the youths, Education, is infected with a virus. Eating slowly and killing gently. The educational system is in shambles. How the strike is still taking place like an annual event is no longer surprising. The sector is not payed attention to with no surprise that it is one of the worst sector in the country. It is neglected which makes you think if our past leaders ever went through this system.
Yet, the youths are expected to meet up with expectations. With little/no attention we are given, much is expected from us.
Unemployment is drastically high. Even after the nightmare of the tertiary institution, the youths wander from distance to distance. Desperation and desires creeping like a disease. The most difficult stage of our lives, with our needs. The stage we are eager and filled with desire to achieve greatness. The youths get enticed with various weapons of destruction. An idle mind is a devils workshop.
When we complain of jobs, we are told to be entrepreneurs. How can we be entrepreneurs without capital/financial help from government? Banks loans aren't youths loans. How can we be entrepreneurs with insecurity? How can we be entrepreneurs with the high rise of corruption?
How?
Our leaders should remember they went through this stage called "Youth". If only they can be sincere and just, they will know that the youths of the giant of Africa are willing and able to bring positive change. The leaders of tomorrow are losing patience.
When they completely lose it, curbing it will be a case study. The best thing a country can do for it youths is educate and employ them.
We, the youths do not want to be manipulated. We are tired of been blamed of the unrest in the country. We are tired of injustice, corruption, segregation and unrest. We want Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.
Together forever we will conquer because we can. Let the youths join hands and make Nigeria, our mother better.
